DETROIT WAYNE COUNTY PORT AUTHORITY EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR POSITION:
The Detroit Wayne County Port Authority is seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Port Executive Director.
The Executive Director is considered the Chief Executive Officer of the Authority and reports directly to the Board of Directors.
This position will manage and oversee all functions of the Authority, including finance, marketing, business development, operations, personnel, engineering, construction, asset acquisition, asset maintenance, security, contract negotiation and management, and public relations. He or she will assist the Board of Directors with establishing and implementing short- and long-term Authority goals and objectives.
The ideal candidate will be experienced in international logistics and will have worked with private and public entities to promote increased use of logistics infrastructure to move Michigan products to domestic and international markets.
The successful candidate in this position will work on-site at the Detroit Wayne County Port Authority in Detroit, Michigan.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in Public Policy, International Affairs, Business Administration, or related field.
- Port Authority experience strongly preferred, but not required.
- Experience in government financing, including grants and bonds.
- Experience in government affairs preferred, but not required
- Five to seven years of professional experience (10 years preferred) in upper management, transportation, program administration, planning, and policy development.

Launched in 2024, this annual event, co-organized with U-M’s Detroit River Story Lab, showcases water-related educational and career opportunities to students and young adults in the Metro Detroit region. Students hear from experts in a wide variety of environmental and other water-related fields on how to build a successful and rewarding career, whether they are interested in science, policy, cutting edge research, or hands-on maritime fieldwork.

- Who should attend: Metro-Detroit youth (ages 15–25), plus teachers and families
